CARBON FOOTPRINT

To future proof us against the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulations coming into force, we recently engaged with accredited carbon assessors – Tunley Environmental, to perform a full lifecycle assessment and calculate our GHG and CFP to ISO 14067, which specifies requirements and guidelines for quantifying emissions at the product level.

Our Carbon Footprint (CFP)

Evidenced that a concrete product manufactured using normal methods of material acquisition (Scenario 1) would give emissions of 161.7kg CO2e/1000kg block Anchorbloc, due to its process (Scenario 2), showed reduced emissions of 38.3kg CO2e/1000kg block, a quarter of our competitors!

Should the Anchorbloc ever fall under CBAM regulations (it currently does not), the cost of import would also significantly reduce from €77.12 per ton to €2.28.

The Results

Stacked bar chart showing the cradle-to-gate (A1 – A3) carbon emissions (kgCO2e/product) for each Anchorbloc™ product. (a) represents scenario 1, (b) represents scenario 2

"It was a pleasure to work with Anchorbloc, who were straightforward and transparent with their data, providing fantastic supporting evidence. I was particularly impressed by their future-focused sustainabile initiatives, such as using otherwise landfill-bound concrete to produce their blocks and HVO fuel instead of diesel during manufacturing stages. Anchorblocs product range is clearly designed with the circular economy and sustainability in mind from the outset."
